Daughters of Fire featured at the 2014 Made in Maui Festival

Tom joined acclaimed Maui authors Jill Engledow and Wayne Moniz at this year’s Made in Maui Festival on November 7 and 8 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center in Kahului (http://www.madeinmauicountyfestival.com). Nine-thousand people attended the Friday/Saturday extravaganza--including residents, visitors, and wholesalers from Hawaiian and the continent on the lookout for new and exciting Hawaii-made products.

Tom’s memoir and family history workshop offered in Volcano, Hawaiʻi

Writers with personal stories to tell can obtain seasoned guidance from Tom in his popular and insightful workshop Writing Family History and Personal Memoir, a day of liberating exercises designed to get one’s true-life tales onto the page. The workshop, offered by the Big Island’s Volcano Art Center, will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Tom will "talk story" on KVMR Radio’s acclaimed Kanikapila Hawaiian Music Show with Michael Keene—Sunday, August 31 at 10:30 AM California time (7:30 AM in Hawaiʻi). Michael's popular program is a Northern California fixture, bringing the music, culture, and aloha of Hawaiʻi to Golden State listeners for decades.

2014 Daughters of Fire Events Celebrate Novel’s Critical Success

Literary events in two of Hawaiʻi Island’s most beautiful towns—Volcano Village on Kilauea and Hawi in North Kohala—celebrated the critical success of Daughters of Fire, recipient of numerous positive reviews and winner of a Benjamin Franklin Award from the Independent Book Publishers Association. 

University Women Invite Tom to Kona

A deep and lively discussion of Daughters of Fire took place at the Keauhou Shopping Center courtyard (in front of the Kona Stories bookstore) on Saturday afternoon, January 28.  The Kona chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and Kona Stories sponsored the reading, discussion and book signing.  (Photos by Catherine Robbins)

Novelist Mark Panek joins Tom for a lively discussion of their Hawaiʻi novels

Award-winning author Mark Panek joined Tom in Hilo for an evening reading and discussion of their two post-statehood novels, Panek’s Hawaiʻi and Peek’s Daughters of Fire. The event, held downtown at Basically Books, was part of Hilo’s “Red and White Night” holiday extravaganza.

Daughters of Fire Makes New York Debut at Book Expo America

This summer Daughters of Fire made its off-island debut at Book Expo America, the largest U.S. publishing event of the year. Many thousands attended the three-day extravaganza, held May 30 – June 1 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Manhattan Island. There Tom introduced the novel to members of that North American and international crowd, talking with booksellers, librarians, and various other book industry representatives. Mahalo to the friendly sales reps at SCB Distributors—Koa Books’ North American distributor—for hosting Tom at their lively and colorful booth!
